SCRANTON, Pa. - In their first home match of the Spring portion of their schedule, the University of Scranton women's tennis team won their fourth straight match overall, beating non-conference opponent Marywood on Thursday by a score of 9-0 at Royal Courts.
With the victory, Scranton improved to 9-5 overall on the year.
In doubles, each tandem in the Royal line-up won their matches by scores of 8-0, led by the team of senior Emily Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) and sophomore Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) who moved to 9-4 overall on the year with their victory.
Other winners in doubles were junior Emily Machado (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) and freshman Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep) at number two and senior Courtney Barron (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and freshman Elyse Smilnak (Holidaysburg, Pa./Holidaysburg) at number three.
In singles, it was more of the same for Scranton, as the Royals swept all six matches in the line-up.
At the top, Walsh was a 6-1, 6-0 winner, while at number two singles, Frattaroli captured a 6-2, 6-0 win. Machado took a 6-0, 6-2 in the number three position, while Barron recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory at number four singles.
Rounding out the sweep for Scranton was Smilnak, who was a 6-0, 6-0 at number five singles, and at number six, freshman Emily Pocius (Moscow, Pa./Scranton Prep) was a 6-1, 6-0 winner in her collegiate debut for Scranton.
The University of Scranton women's tennis team returns to action on Sunday, hosting Moravian in a Landmark Conference match-up at Royal Courts. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
