SELINSGROVE,, Pa. - The University of Scranton men's tennis team continued their winning ways in Landmark Conference play on Wednesday, rolling past host Susquehanna to a 9-0 victory on the road.
With the victory, the Royals are now 6-8 on the year and 3-2 in the Landmark Conference.
Scranton got things going on the right foot in doubles, sweeping three matches to take a 3-0 lead into singles play.
At number one, the team of sophomore Keller McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) and freshman Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) coasted to a 8-1 win, while at number two, juniors Matt Prendergast (Flanders, N.J./Mt. Olive) and Michael Pottieger (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) won for the sixth straight match, pulling out an 8-6 victory.
In the final spot in doubles, senior Kevin Murphy (Greenbelt, Md./Gonzaga College High School) and freshman Christian Aksu (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) recorded an 8-1 win to finish off doubles play in dominating fashion for Scranton.
The Royals then steamrolled through singles, winning each of the six matches contest in straight sets.
In the top three spots, Ochalski (6-1, 6-2), McGurrin (6-0, 6-1) and Prednergast (6-3, 6-2) coasted to victories, respectively, while junior David Commender (Larchmont, N.Y./Iona Prep) notched a 6-4, 6-1 win at number four singles. For Prendergast, it was his fourth straight win overall, as well.
The final two spots in singles saw two freshman - Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) and Charles Swope (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) - keep active winning streaks alive.
Harkins won his sixth straight match overall, taking a 6-2, 6-3 decision at number five, while Swope notched his eighth win in a row (6-0, 6-0) in the sixth spot to clinch the sweep for Scranton.
The University of Scranton men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, hosting Drew in another Landmark Conference match at Royal Courts. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
