SCRANTON, Pa. - Senior Emily Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) of the University of Scranton women's tennis team made history, winning her 48th career singles match overall on Saturday to set a new all-time record for the program, as the Royals blanked visiting Drew, 9-0, in Landmark Conference action.

Before the match, Walsh and fellow senior Courtney Barron (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) were honored for their contributions to the program the last four years.

The victory, which was Scranton's sixth straight overall, improved the Royals' record on the year to 11-5, 5-0 in the Landmark Conference.

For Walsh, her historic win came at number one singles, where she posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory to push her career record to 48-18 overall. Walsh, who has now won six singles matches in a row, breaks the previous record of 47 which was set by Megan Azzalina last season.

Walsh also posted the 42nd doubles victory of her career in the win, as her and teammate Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown), who posted an 8-2 win at number one doubles, their seventh straight overall. In singles, Frattaroli also won, capturing a 6-1, retired win at number two singles.

At number two doubles, junior Emily Machado (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) and freshman Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep) were 8-1 winners. The winning continued for both in singles, as Machado gutted out a tough three-set victory in the third spot (7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (15-13)) and Jakubek was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at number four singles.

Rounding out the lineup for Scranton in doubles and singles were Barron and freshman Elyse Smilnak (Holidaysburg, Pa./Holidaysburg), who captured an 8-4 win at number three doubles. Barron went on to win at number five singles (6-2, 6-2), while Smilnak was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at number six singles.
