ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Junior Matt Prendergast (Flanders, N.J./Mt. Olive), sophomore Keller McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) and freshman Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) each won singles and doubles matches to lead The University of Scranton baseball team to a 9-0 win at Elizabethtown on Saturday.
The victory puts a cap on the regular season for the Royals (8-9, 5-3 Landmark), who do not yet know their playoff seed for next week's Landmark Conference playoffs. Seeding and matchups will be announced Sunday following the conclusion of the Susquehanna-Catholic match, which begins at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday.
Ochalski and McGurrin teamed for an 8-6 win at no. 1 doubles, then Ochalski went out and posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at no. 1 singles while McGurrin was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at no. 2.
Prendergast teamed with fellow junior Michael Pottieger (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) for an 8-4 win at no. 2 doubles. Prendergast later added a 6-0, 6-3 win at no. 3 singles.
Senior Kevin Murphy (Greenbelt, Md./Gonzaga College H.S.) teamed with freshman Christian Aksu (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) for an 8-5 victory at no. 3 doubles.
The Royals also received singles victories from junior David Commender (Larchmont, N.Y./Iona Prep), 6-1, 6-1 at no. 4; freshman Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) at no. 5; and freshman Charles Swope (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley), 6-1, 6-1 at no. 6.
