Catholic Pulls Away To Defeat Women's Lacrosse; Royals Enter Landmark Playoffs As No. 3 Seed

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team was even with Catholic through the first 21 minutes on Saturday, but the Cardinals used a 6-1 run to end the first half to take control en route to a 20-10 victory over the Royals on Saturday at Cardinal Stadium in the regular season finale for both teams.

Catholic (8-7, 6-0 Landmark) will be the top seed in next week's Landmark Conference playoffs. The Royals (10-6, 4-2) will be the third seed and will visit second-seeded Susquehanna for a semifinal on Wednesday, May 4, at 7 p.m. Catholic will host fourth-seeded Drew in the other semifinal on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The winners will meet on Saturday in the Landmark Conference championship at the home site of the highest remaining seed.

Scranton was led on Saturday by freshman attacker Elena Gallo (East Meadow, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), who had three goals and an assist, and senior midfielder Erin Allen (Syosset, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy), who had three goals.

Junior midfielder Meghan Kerr (Warwick, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) added two goals and two assists, freshman attacker Katie Rogers (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) had a goal and an assist, and sophomore midfielder Kailyn Angelo (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) added a goal.

The Royals forced 23 turnovers, but Catholic held a 38-24 edge in shots and 24-7 in draw controls. Allen added a team-high five ground balls for the Royals, and senior midfielder Fiona Keelan (New Rochelle, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and freshman defender Claire Eberle (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) had four each.
