SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team was in a close battle against Susquehanna at halftime on Friday evening, but a tough second half led to an 18-8 loss in the Landmark Conference matchup at Sassafras Field.
The Royals (6-5, 1-1 Landmark) scored the final two goals of the first half to trail, 6-5, at the break. But Susquehanna (5-5, 2-0 Landmark) scored three straight goals and five of the first six in the second half to take control en route to the victory.
Senior midfielder Erin Allen (Syosset, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy), sophomore midfielder Kailyn Angelo (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and freshman attacker Elena Gallo (East Meadow, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) had two goals each for Scranton. Freshman attacker Katie Rogers (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and freshman midfielder Paige Stoessel (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) added a goal apiece.
Scranton was outshot, 36-22, and committed 23 turnovers to 15 by Susquehanna. Senior Bridget Gallaher (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) had a team-high five ground balls and forced a turnover. Angelo and Stoessel each had three draw controls to lead the team.
The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, April 16, when they visit Merchant Marine Academy for a Landmark Conference game at 1 p.m.
