ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Scranton women's tennis team opened the Spring portion of their 2016-17 schedule on Saturday, and the Royals fell to Wisconsin-La Crosse in Orlando, 9-0.
With the defeat, Scranton dropped to 2-3 overall on the year.
In the defeat, the doubles team of sophomore Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep) and senior Emily Machado (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) dropped a hard fought decision in the number two spot, falling 8-6.
Wisconsin-La Crosse would go on to win the other two doubles matches contested, then swept singles play, winning each match in straight sets over the Royals.
The University of Scranton women's tennis team returns to action on Monday, taking on Ohio Wesleyan as their Spring Break matches continue in Orlando. Things get underway at 3 p.m.
