ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Scranton women's tennis team finished their 2017 Spring Break trip on Thursday in Orlando, and the Royals dropped a tough 6-3 decision to St. Norbert.
With the defeat, the Royals fell to 2-5 overall on the year.
In doubles action, Scranton got off to a great start, winning two of the three matches contested to take a 2-1 lead into singles.
Taking victories in doubles for Scranton were the team of junior Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) and Nastashia DeNunzio (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore), who won in the number one spot, 8-5.
Meanwhile at number two, sophomore Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep) and senior Emily Machado (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) also took an 8-5 decision.
In singles, however, St. Norbert took five off the six matches contested to win the match by a 6-3 score. Scranton's lone win in singles came at number two, where DeNunzio was victorious (4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (13-11)).
Scranton, however, didn't go down in the match without a fight, as Jakubek and sophomore Elyse Smilnak (Holidaysburg, Pa./Holidaysburg) dropped their matches in three sets at both the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
Scranton will return to action early next month, hosting Elizabethtown on April 1 at home in Landmark Conference action at 1 p.m.
