SCRANTON, Pa. - The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team fell to 10th-ranked Catholic on Saturday at Fitzpatrick Field, 20-4, in a Landmark Conference match.

With the defeat, the Royals dropped to 6-2 overall for the year, 1-1 in the Landmark Conference, while Catholic improved to 6-2 and 2-0 in the Landmark with the victory.

In the opening half of the contest, Catholic came out fast, opening a 6-0 lead on the Royals in the first 15 minutes of regulation.

Scranton, however, clawed their way back into the match after scoring four of the next six goals, slicing the Catholic lead down to 8-4 with about a minute to go in the opening frame.

Scoring goals for Scranton in the period were freshman Shannon Warburton (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh), junior Morgan Windisch (Williston Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), sophomore Katie Rogers (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's), and senior Meghan Kerr (Warwick, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic). Kerr and sophomore Kaitlyn Murphy (Somers, N.Y./North Salem) were also credited with assists on two of the four goals scored by the Royals, as well.

However, Catholic ended the half with a goal tallied with two seconds left to take a 9-4 lead into intermission.

In the second period, the Cardinals controlled play, outscoring the Royals 11-0 in the frame to roll to the Landmark Conference victory on the road.

Overall, Scranton posted 16 ground balls in the victory, and forced 19 Catholic turnovers. Murphy and junior Dana Siepietowski (Boyertown, Pa./Boytertown Area) led the Royals on the day in the ground ball department, each recording three.

The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Rowan for a non-conference contest. Things are slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
