SCRANTON, Pa. - The University of Scranton women's tennis team won all but one match on the day, as the Royals captured their third match in a row on Tuesday, knocking off Marywood, 8-1, in a non-conference match at Royal Courts.

With the win, Scranton moved to 5-6 overall on the year, while Marywood dropped to 14-5 with the defeat.

For the third consecutive match, Scranton started play with a clean sweep in doubles, taking all three matches contested to go up 3-0 entering singles.

At number one, senior Emily Machado (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) and sophomore Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep) captured an 8-4 win, while at number two, freshman Nastashia DeNunzio (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) and sophomore Elyse Smilnak (Holidaysburg, Pa./Holidaysburg) took an 8-5 win.

Scranton completed the doubles sweep with a win at number three, as the freshman duo of Katerina Ringes (Sandy Hook, Conn./Immaculate) and Emily Kelly (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) coasted to an 8-1 win.

In singles action, Scranton continued their convincing play, taking seven of the eight matches contested.

Doubling up on victories in singles was DeNunzio at number one (6-1, 6-2), Jakubek at number two (6-2, 6-1), Smilnak at four (6-3, 6-0) and Ringes at number six (6-2, 6-0). Freshman Sakira Fussner (Kempton, Pa./Kutztown Area) was Scranton's last winner of the day, taking a hard fought three-set decision at number five (2-6, 6-1, 11-9).

The University of Scranton women's tennis team returns to action next Wednesday, traveling to Drew for a Landmark Conference match on the road. Action gets underway at 4 p.m.
