MADISON, N.J. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team fell into a deep hole in doubles play and could not recover, losing to first-place Drew, 7-2, in a Landmark Conference match on Wednesday at the Drew Tennis Complex.
The Royals (5-7, 2-2) fell behind, 3-0, after doubles, meaning they would need to win five of six singles matches. They were only able to get two against the Rangers (12-1, 5-0 Landmark), who have won 12 in a row after dropping their first match of the season.
Scranton received singles victories from junior Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) and sophomore Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep). Frattaroli earned a 6-4, 6-4 win at no. 1 singles while Jakubek was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at no. 4.
The Royals are now tied for fourth with three Landmark Conference matches to play. They will return to action on Saturday, April 22, when they host Susquehanna in a Landmark Conference match at 1 p.m. at Royal Courts.
