SCRANTON, Pa. - The University of Scranton men's tennis team opened their 2017-18 season on Monday afternoon across town at Marywood, and the Royals rolled past the host Pacers, 9-0.

On the day, the Royals got the match kicked off with a dominating performance in doubles, as Marywood only scored one point in three matches.

Taking the opening win of the afternoon in doubles was the tandem of junior Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) and senior Keller McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep), who rolled to an 8-0 win.

At number three, junior Christian Aksu (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) and freshman Connor Lemieux (Guilford, Conn./The Gunnery) also posted an 8-0 win, and at number two, juniors Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and Charles Swope (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) coasted to an 8-1 win to put Scranton up 3-0 entering singles.

In singles action, it more of the same, as McGurrin (at number one), Ochalski (at number three), Harkins (at number four) and Swope (at number five) all won their matches in shutouts, 6-0, 6-0.

At number two, freshman Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) opened his collegiate career with a 6-0, 6-0 win, while sophomore Brandon Ostrowski (Dalton, Pa./Abington Heights) completed the sweep of Marywood with a 6-0, 6-1 win at number six.

The University of Scranton men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, hosting Messiah at Royal Courts. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
