Three players posted victories in both singles and doubles to lead The University of Scranton men's tennis team to a dominant 8-1 victory over Messiah on Saturday afternoon at Royal Courts.
The Royals (2-0) received two wins each from juniors Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), as well as freshman Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep).
Ochalski and Harkins paired up to post an 8-4 victory at no. 2 doubles. Ochalski then picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at no. 3 singles while Harkins was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at no. 4.
McGurrin teamed with his older brother, Keller McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) to pull out a 9-7 win at no. 1 doubles. And Tarquin then went out and posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at no. 2 singles.
The Royals also received an 8-1 victory from the no. 3 doubles team of junior Christian Aksu (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) and freshman Connor Lemieux (Guilford, Conn./The Gunnery). Junior Charles Swope (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at no. 5 singles while sophomore Brandon Ostrowski (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) secured a 6-1, 6-3 victory at no. 6 singles.
The Royals will hold their annual alumni match on Sunday at 1 p.m. to conclude their fall season.
