Senior Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) and junior Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep) both posted victories in singles and doubles to lead The University of Scranton women's tennis team to a 6-3 victory over Messiah on Saturday at Royal Courts.
The victory kept the Royals (6-0) undefeated in the fall season with two matches remaining. It was also just the second time this season that they lost a match, having a total victory margin of 47-6 in their six matches.
Frattaroli teamed with sophomore Nastashia DeNunzio (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) for an 8-3 win at no. 1 doubles. She then cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win at no. 1 singles.
Jakubek teamed up with freshman Tatiana Klacko (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) to pick up an 8-4 win at no. 2 doubles. Jakubek then added a 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 win at no. 3 singles to improve to 6-0 in singles play this season.
Scranton also received a 6-4, 6-3 win from sophomore Emily Kelly (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) at no. 4 singles, and a 6-2, 6-0 win at no. 6 singles from freshman Lindsey Roberto (Princeton, N.J./Notre Dame). Kelly improved to 5-0 in doubles play with her victory.
The women's tennis team is back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 3, when the Royals host Wilkes at 4 p.m. at Royal Courts.
