ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore Nicholas Ciaccia (Freehold, N.J./Howell) picked up his 15th pin of the season to lead The University of Scranton wrestling team to a 27-6 road victory over Muhlenberg on Friday night.

Ciaccia clamped his opponent at 141 pounds in 4:41 to give the Royals (8-3) a 12-0 lead in the match. They would go on to win eight of the 10 bouts to post the victory. Ciaccia's 15 pins this season are the third-most in Royals' history, trailing only the 19 by both Michael Grandchamp (1988-89) and Mike Griffin (2002-03).

Freshman Patrick Deacon (Glenside, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) clinched the victory with his 11-7 decision at 184 pounds. Junior Daniel D'Agostini (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) was victorious in his hometown with a 12-11 decision at 197 pounds for his 60th career win.

Scranton got off to a fast start with back-to-back decisions to start the match. Junior Jake Thomson (Wantagh, N.Y./General Douglas McArthur H.S.) opened the night with a 7-6 victory at 125 pounds. Senior Nicholas DePierro (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township) followed with an 8-4 win at 133, setting up Ciaccia's pin to double the lead to 12-0.

Sophomores T.J. Conlon (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) and John Sheedy (Somerset, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) followed Ciaccia by earning victories by decision to give the Royals an 18-0 lead. Conlon was a 6-5 winner at 141 while Sheedy won 8-1 at 149.

After Muhlenberg (6-6) had back-to-back decisions at 165 and 174, Deacon clinched it at 184 to ruin any hopes of a rally for the Mules. D'Agostini followed with his decision before sophomore Keegan Connelly (Schnecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) put up a 5-1 decision victory at 285 pounds.

The wrestling team will return to action on Friday, Feb. 16, when the Royals take on Wilkes at 7 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
