The University of Scranton wrestling program is proud to announce the return of Jacob Burgette as an assistant coach for the 2025-26 season. Burgette, who made an immediate impact as a graduate student-athlete during his two years with the program, brings elite-level experience, leadership, and a deep understanding of the Royals' culture back to the mat.
Burgette wrestled at 165 pounds during his standout graduate campaign in 2023-24, finishing the year with a remarkable 35-10 record. His 35 victories are tied for the fifth-most in a single season in program history, while his 12 pins are tied for seventh-most. His dominant season included being named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Electric City Duals on November 12, where he earned four victories, including three pins.
His success continued into the 2024-25 season, where he compiled a 27-4 record with nine pins, further solidifying his place among Scranton's most accomplished recent competitors.
In addition to his on-the-mat accomplishments, Burgette was also a model student-athlete. He earned NWCA Scholar All-American honors in both 2024 and 2025 and was a two-time member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll.Â
As an assistant coach, Burgette will help lead practices, mentor student-athletes, and assist with recruiting and match-day preparations as the Royals aim to build on their recent success.Â
