WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Donell Young of The University of Scranton wrestling team opened the 2025-26 season in dominant fashion, capturing first place at 174 pounds at Sunday's Lycoming Invitational.
Young went a perfect 4-0 on the day, beginning with an 18-2 technical fall over Eli Cassady of Otterbein University. He followed with a 13-7 decision over Lucas Schnell of Castleton before edging Jariel Severino of Misericordia in a 3-2 decision to advance to the finals. In the championship match, Young sealed the title with a 13-8 victory over Anthony Matas of Misericordia.
Several other Royals also turned in strong performances in the team's season debut. Jack McCaffrey finished fourth at 184 pounds, Joseph Epright took sixth at 197, Shoaib Nadir placed eighth at 133, Nate DeCoite earned eighth at 149A, Logan Donato claimed sixth at 157B, and Joseph Del Real claimed eighth at 157A.
The Royals showed depth and promise throughout the tournament against a competitive regional field.
