SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton wrestling team posted a 2–1 record at the U of S Duals on Sunday, earning victories over Hunter College and Pitt-Bradford while dropping a narrow decision to King's College in the opening match.
King's 22, Scranton 17
Scranton opened the day with a hard-fought 22–17 setback to King's College. The Royals picked up four wins in the dual, highlighted by a dominant 15–3 major decision from Donell Young at 165 pounds. Kevin McCarvill followed with an 18–4 major decision at 174, while Quinton Laughlin secured an 8–6 decision at 197. Max Shnipes closed the scoring for Scranton with a pin in 1:25 at heavyweight, but the Royals came up just short in the team score.
Scranton 34, Hunter 12
Scranton bounced back in emphatic fashion with a 34–12 victory over Hunter College. Joseph Cappello set the tone at 125 with a 19–6 major decision, and Mark Ortiz added a win by forfeit at 133. Logan Donato edged out a 6–5 decision at 157 before Young delivered a momentum-shifting pin in just 35 seconds at 165. McCarvill followed with a pin in 4:13 at 174, Charles Kitching posted a 5–2 decision at 184, and Shnipes capped the dual with a pin in 1:22 at heavyweight.
Scranton 29, Pitt-Bradford 21
In the final match of the day, the Royals earned a 29–21 victory over Pitt-Bradford. Christopher Cordero opened the scoring with a forfeit win at 141, and Luke Burke added a 9–4 decision at 157. Young continued his strong day with a technical fall at 165, while McCarvill recorded an 11–6 decision at 174. Kitching and Shnipes sealed the team win with back-to-back forfeits at 184 and heavyweight.
