WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The University of Scranton wrestling team delivered a strong showing at the Lycoming All State Invitational on Sunday, highlighted by a championship performance and multiple podium finishes across several weight classes.
Leading the way for the Royals was Donell Young, who captured first place at 165 pounds. Young put together a dominant run through the bracket, recording one pin, one major decision, and two decision victories on his way to the title.
Scranton added a runner-up finish at 165 pounds as Kevin McCarvill placed second, tallying one pin and one major decision during the tournament.
The Royals posted several third-place finishes throughout the day. At 174 pounds, Charles Kitching finished third, earning one pin and one technical fall, while Quinton Laughlin claimed third at 184 pounds with one pin and one decision victory. At 125 pounds, Luke Griffin added another third-place finish, picking up one decision win.
Additional top-six results rounded out a productive team effort. Jake Rudy placed fourth at 174 pounds with a decision victory, and Luke Burke finished fourth at 157 pounds, recording one pin and one decision win. Max Shnipes earned fifth place at 285 pounds, collecting two pins, while Shkeb Nadir also finished fifth at 149 pounds, compiling one pin, two technical falls, and one decision win.
At 125 pounds, Joseph Cappello placed sixth, securing one major decision and one pin, and Timothy Carbonaro added a sixth-place finish at 184 pounds with one pin.
As a team, Scranton finished third overall with 98.5 points, recording one individual title, three third-place finishes, one fourth-place finish, and two fifth-place finishes at the invitational.
The Royals will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 5 with a road dual-match at Wilkes University at 7:00 p.m.
