Sophomore Donell Young of The University of Scranton wrestling team has been named the Peggy's Scranton Athlete of the Week after earning an individual title at 174 pounds to open the 2025-26 season.
Young was dominant at the Lycoming Invitational on Sunday, posting a perfect 4-0 record to capture the championship in his weight class. He opened the day with an 18-2 technical fall over Otterbein's Eli Cassady, followed by a 13-7 decision against Castleton's Lucas Schnell. After edging Misericordia's Jariel Severino 3-2 in the semifinals, Young secured the title with a 13-8 victory over Anthony Matas of Misericordia in the finals.
The Royals showed strong depth in their season debut, but Young's performance stood out as he led Scranton to a successful start against a competitive regional field.
Scranton returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 9, for a tri-match at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va., where the Royals will face Shenandoah and Pennsylvania Highlands Community College beginning at 12:00 p.m.
