SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton wrestling team put together a strong performance at the Electric City Duals on Sunday, finishing 4–1 with decisive victories over Keystone, Kean, Elmira, and Bergen before narrowly falling to NJCU in the championship round.
Scranton opened the day with a 54–6 win over Keystone, powered by victories from Mark Ortiz, Charles Arobone, Nick Gillmor, Kosta Mavrikidis, Logan Donato, Kevin McCarvill, Donell Young, Jack McCaffrey, and Max Shnipes.
The Royals followed with a dominant 58–0 shutout of Kean, where Joseph Cappello, Arobone, Gillmor, Aidan Veirun, Luke Burke, McCarvill, Young, Quinton Laughlin, and Shnipes all recorded wins, including several first-period pins.
Scranton continued to roll in a 55–0 victory over Elmira behind strong performances from Ortiz, Arobone, Gillmor, Veirun, Donato, McCarvill, Young, McCaffrey, Laughlin, and Shnipes—featuring tech falls from Veirun and McCaffrey and pins by Donato, McCarvill, and Shnipes.
In the fourth round, Scranton secured a 38–16 win over Bergen as Mavrikidis, McCarvill, Young, and McCaffrey delivered bonus-point victories.
In the championship dual against NJCU, Scranton dropped the opening five bouts before mounting a rally with wins from McCarvill, Young, McCaffrey, and Laughlin. Despite the late surge, Scranton came up just short in a 25–21 loss, closing the day with a strong 4–1 finish and two shutouts.
Scranton returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 22, traveling to Albright College for a 2:00 p.m. dual in Reading, Pa.
