Five different players scored multiple goals to lead The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team to a 16-5 win over Marywood in the home opener on Saturday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Field.

The Royals (2-0) raced out to a 9-1 halftime lead and didn't look back, pushing the advantage to 14-2 after three quarters. The win marks the first time Scranton has opened the season with back-to-back victories since 2012.

Senior midfielder Conor Carey (Long Beach, N.Y./Chaminade) led the attack with four goals and two assists for a career-high six points. Sophomore midfielder Michael Elefonte (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) also had a career high with four points on three goals and an assist.

Sophomore forward Connor Kirkwood (Millburn, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) also had three goals, sophomore midfielder Joe Hill (South Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) had two goals and an assist, and junior attackman Tim Dolan (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) finished with two goals.

Senior attackman Patrick O'Rourke (Floral Park, N.Y./Chaminade) had a strong game with a goal and two assists, sophomore attackman Quinn Killeen (Berkeley Heights, N.J./New Providence) had a goal and senior midfielder Casey Green (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) added an assist.

Senior midfielder Adam Drury (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) finished 15-for-19 in the faceoff circle and tied Carey for the team lead with seven ground balls. Junior long-stick midfielder Adam Maiale (Blue Bell, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) added five ground balls and tied for the team lead with three caused turnovers. Senior defenseman Kieran Pues (Long Beach, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) also had three caused turnovers.

Senior goalkeeper Jeff Sabatini (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) made five saves in the opening 52:45 to pick up the win. Freshman goalkeeper Shayne Fallon (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) made three saves the rest of the way while making his collegiate debut.

Scranton held a commanding 51-23 edge in shots and a 43-20 advantage in ground balls. The Royals won 20 of the 25 faceoffs and completed 14 of 17 clear attempts. They also forced 22 turnovers while committing 20.

The men's lacrosse team will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 21, when the Royals host DeSales at 4 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
