ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team opened its spring schedule with an 8-1 victory over Stevens on Sunday as the Royals kicked off their annual Spring Break trip with the convincing win.
Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown), Nastashia DeNunzio (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore), Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep), and Tatiana Klacko (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) were all two-match winners to lead Scranton (7-2) past the Ducks (9-3).
Scranton jumped out to a 3-0 advantage by sweeping doubles action on Sunday. Frattaroli and DeNunzio posted an 8-2 victory at #1 doubles while Jakubek and Klacko won at the second doubles flight, 8-1.
Katherine Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) and Elyse Smilnak (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) rounded at the sweep with an 8-2 decision at #3 doubles.
The Royals closed out the victory by winning five of the six singles matches.
Frattaroli won at the top flight, 7-5, 7-5, while DeNunzio posted a 5-7, 6-3, 11-9 triumph at #2 singles.
Jakubek and Klacko added their second wins of the afternoon at the third and fourth singles flights with Jakubek posting a 6-3, 6-4 win at #3 singles and Klacko winning at #4 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Lindsay Roberto (Princeton, N.J./Notre Dame) picked up a 6-2, 7-5 victory at #6 singles.
Stevens received its only point of the match with Makenna Sargis's 6-4, 6-2 win at #5 singles.
Scranton will return to the court on Monday with a match against Rensselaer starting at 7:00 p.m. in Orlando.
