Men's Tennis Clips Colby-Sawyer to Remain Unbeaten, 5-4

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Scranton men's tennis team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 5-4 victory over Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday afternoon in Florida.  The Royals posted their second 5-4 win in as many days to remain unbeaten on the 2017-18 season while dropping the Chargers to 0-2.

Charles Swope (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) won a pair of matches to lead Scranton while Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) clinched the victory for the Royals by rallying for a 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 10-5 victory at #5 singles.

Colby-Sawyer held a 2-1 edge after doubles play after winning the top two flight.  Swope and Christian Aksu (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) gave Scranton its first point of the match with an 8-6 triumph at #3 doubles.

In singles action, Swope, Harkins, Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep), and Connor Lemieux (Guilford, Conn./The Gunnery) all won for Scranton to help the Royals rally from the early deficit.

McGurrin posted a 6-0, 7-6 (10-4) win at #2 singles, Swope handled his opponent at #4 singles, 6-1, 6-1, and Lemieux came back for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 victory at #6 singles to set the stage for Harkins to post the decisive win.

The Royals will play a pair of matches on Wednesday, squaring off against Roger Williams at 10:00 a.m. followed by a 3:00 p.m. match against Flagler.
