Elizabethtown Trips Up Men's Lacrosse, 12-6, On Saturday

ELIZABETHOTWN, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team could never get its attack going on Saturday afternoon, falling to Elizabethtown, 12-6, in a Landmark Conference matchup.

The Royals (8-5, 2-2 Landmark) went into halftime trailing 6-4, but managed just two goals after the break, both in the fourth period. Elizabethtown (6-7, 3-1 Landmark) took advantage by scoring four straight goals to take control with a 10-4 lead early in the fourth.

The loss moves Scranton into third place in the Landmark Conference, a half-game ahead of a trio of teams with two games remaining.

Scranton received a goal and an assist from sophomore midfielder Joe Hill (South Hempstead, N.Y./South Side). Senior midfielders Patrick O'Rourke (Floral Park, N.Y./Chaminade) and Conor Carey (Long Beach, N.Y./Chaminade) both had a goal, as did junior attackman Tim Dolan (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), sophomore midfielder Quinn Killeen (Berkeley Heights, N.J./New Providence) and sophomore attackman Michael Modesti (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport).

Sophomore defenseman Gordon Paul (Ocean, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) led the defense with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior midfielder Adam Maiale (Blue Bell, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) had two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Carey led the team with six ground balls and also had a caused turnover.

Senior midfielder Adam Drury (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) won 12 of 18 faceoffs.

The Royals held a slim 38-35 edge in shots. Both teams committed 18 turnovers and the Blue Jays held an edge in the ground ball battle, 35-31. Scranton completed 17 of 21 clear attempts and scored on two of three man-up situations. Elizabethown was successful on 18 of 24 clear attempts and scored on both of its man-up advantages.

The men's lacrosse team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 18, when the Royals travel to Madison, N.J. to take on Drew at 7 p.m
