The University of Scranton women's tennis team celebrated its Senior Day with a 7-2 victory over Moravian on Saturday in Landmark Conference action at the Royal Courts. The Royals who honored seniors Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) and Katherine Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) prior to the match, improve to 12-3 on the season and remain unbeaten in conference play at 3-0.
Frattaroli, Nastashia DeNunzio (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore), Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep), and Tatiana Klacko (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) were all two-time wins for Scranton against the Greyhounds (6-2, 2-1 Landmark).
Scranton claimed a 2-1 advantage at the conclusion of doubles play on Saturday. Frattaroli and DeNunzio earned an 8-6 win at #1 doubles while Jakubek and Klacko were victorious at #2 doubles, 8-2. Moravian picked up its first point of the match with an 8-4 win at the third doubles flight.
The Royals went on to win five of the six singles matches to earn the victory.
Frattaroli battled to a 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 triumph at the top flight while DeNunzio scored her second win of the day with a 6-4, 6-0 win at #2 singles.
At the third matchup, Jakubek won 6-1, 7-5 while Klacko added a 6-3, 6-1 decision at #4 singles as the duo both added their second victories of the afternoon.
The Greyhounds picked up another point with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #5 singles while Lindsay Roberto (Princeton, N.J./Notre Dame) posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the sixth singles pairing.
Scranton will visit Elizabethtown on Sunday afternoon for a Landmark Conference match starting at 11:30 a.m. The match will be played at the Wisehaven Tennis Center in York, Pa.
