YORK, Pa. – The University of Scranton cruised to a 9-0 victory over Elizabethtown in a Landmark Conference men's tennis match on Sunday at the Wisehaven Tennis Center. The Royals improve to 8-3 on the season with their third straight win including a 3-1 mark in conference matches while the Blue Jays slide to 3-7 (0-4 Landmark) this year.
Scranton raced out to a 3-0 advantage after doubles play. Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) and Keller McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) combined for 8-1 win at the top doubles pairing while Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) won in straight sets at #2 doubles.
Christian Aksu (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) and Charles Swope (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) picked up a win by default at #3 doubles.
The Royals cruised though singles play as well to secure their second 9-0 victory in as many days. Tarquin McGurrin won at the top singles flight, 6-1, 6-1, while Keller McGurrin posted a 6-4, 6-1 victory at #2 singles.
Swope and Harkins won in straight sets at #4 and #5 singles, respectively, while Ochalski and Connor Lemieux (Guilford, Conn./The Gunnery) claimed wins by default at the third and sixth matchups.
Scranton will return to the court on Wednesday with a Landmark Conference match against Drew. First serves are set for 4:00 p.m. on the Royal Courts in Scranton.
