SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The University of Scranton clinched the top seed in the Landmark Conference women's tennis playoffs with an 8-1 victory at Susquehanna on Saturday. The Royals (15-3, 6-0 Landmark) will have home court advantage throughout the postseason tournament after winning their sixth match in a row.
Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown), Nastashia DeNunzio (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore), Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep), and Tatiana Klacko (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) won two matches apiece to lead Scranton past the River Hawks (3-12, 0-6 Landmark).
The Royals dropped just one set in doubles competition to race out to a 3-0 advantage.
Frattaroli and DeNunzio won in straight sets at #1 doubles, as did Elyse Smilnak (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) and Katherine Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) at #3 doubles.
Jakubek and Klacko had little trouble at #2 doubles, posting an 8-1 victory.
In singles action, Frattaroli won at the top pairing, 6-3, 6-2 while DeNunzio added her second victory of the day with a 6-0, 6-1 decision at the second flight.
Jakubek won in straight sets at #3 singles while Klacko defeated her opponent at #4 singles, 6-4, 6-4.
Emily Kelly (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) notched a 7-5, 6-0 triumph at the fifth singles flight while Susquehanna took its lone point of the match with a win at #6 singles.
Scranton will close out the regular season on Sunday with a Landmark Conference match at Juniata starting at 12:00 p.m.
