HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team wrapped up a perfect spring in Landmark Conference play on Sunday, finishing 7-0 in league matches with an 8-1 victory at Juniata. The Royals improve to 16-3 overall and will take a seven-match winning streak into the Landmark Conference playoffs.
Scranton will host a Landmark Conference semifinal on Tuesday, May 1 at the Royals Courts. The Royals' opponent will not be determined until the completion of the remaining Landmark Conference matches next weekend.
Nastashia DeNunzio (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore), Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep), and Tatiana Klacko (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) won two matches apiece on Sunday to lead Scranton past the Eagles (9-9, 3-4 Landmark).
The Royals cruised to a 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles play on Sunday. DeNunzio and Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) posted an 8-3 victory at #1 doubles while Jakubek and Klacko partnered up for an 8-2 decision at #2 doubles.
Elyse Smilnak (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) and Katherine Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) rounded out doubles action with an 8-1 triumph at the third pairing.
Juniata scored its lone point of the match with a win at #1 singles, but Scranton won the remaining five singles matches to pull away with the overall win.
DeNunzio scored her second win of the day with a 7-6, 6-4 victory at #2 singles while Jakubek matched the feat with a 6-0, 6-4 win at #3 singles.
Klacko added her second win by cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 decision at #4 singles while Emily Kelly (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) was victorious at #5 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
Lindsay Roberto (Princeton, N.J./Notre Dame) rounded out the day with a 7-5, 6-3 win at #6 singles.
Scranton is looking for its first Landmark Conference title since 2014 this postseason.
