Shannon Warburton (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) scored a career-high six goals while Christine Olert (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) registered the 100th point of her career on Tuesday night to highlight a dominant performance by The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team as the Royals defeated Cabrini 18-9 at Fitzpatrick Field.
Olert, who reached the 100-point plateau by scoring a goal with 9:50 remaining in the first half to become the 26th player in Scranton history to reach the milestone and third this season to reach the feat. She finished the evening with a goal and two assists.
12 different players recorded points for Scranton in Tuesday's win over the Cavaliers (10-7) as the Royals improved to 10-6 on the spring with their fourth consecutive victory.
Elena Gallo (East Meadow, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) totaled five points on two goals and three assists while Katie Rogers (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) added two goals and two assists for the Royals.
Scranton raced out to a 7-1 advantage over the first 16 minutes against the Cavaliers. The two teams traded a pair of goals apiece before the Royals closed the period by netting seven of the final eight goals of the first half to hold a commanding, 16-4 lead at halftime.
The Royals struck first in the second half before Cabrini netted three straight goals to make it a 17-7 contest midway through the period. After another Scranton tally, the visitors closed the scoring with a pair of goals in the final seven and a half minutes.
Kate Calabro (Seaford, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) dished out three assists to go along with a team-best five draw controls while Kailyn Angelo (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) scored a goal and added four draw controls to move into second place all-time in Landmark Conference history with 343 draw controls for her career.
Kaitlyn Murphy (Somers, N.Y./North Salem), Jill Henson (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), and Morgan Windisch (Williston Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) had a goal and an assist each.
Becca Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) had a big game, totaling five ground balls, three caused turnovers, and three draw controls while also scoring a goal.
Siobhan Warburton (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and Bridget Lalley (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) also scored goals for the hosts, who got seven saves apiece from goalkeepers Erin Putnam (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) and Lauren Devlin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West).
The Royals finished the evening with a 33-29 advantage in shots and a 19-16 edge in ground balls. The hosts also claimed 16 draw controls to 12 for the Cavaliers and were 20-of-23 on clears
Scranton will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday with its regular season finale against Juniata. Opening draw of the Landmark Conference tilt between the Royals and Eagles is set for 1:00 p.m. in Scranton.
