Kirkwood, Dolan Power Men's Lacrosse To 17-5 Win Over Moravian

Sophomore attackman Connor Kirkwood (Millburn, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) and junior attackman Tim Dolan (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) combined for 11 goals to lead The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team to a 17-5 win over Moravian in a Landmark Confernce game at Fitzpatrick Field.

Kirkwood finished with six goals and now has 13 in the last two games. He now has 39 for the season, five shy of matching the program's single-season record of 44, set by Greg O'Neill in 1988 and matched by Joe Empirio in 1999.

Dolan had a career-high five goals along with an assist for six points, also a career high. He and Kirkwood combined for six first-half goals as Scranton raced out to an 8-3 lead at halftime.

Scranton (8-4, 2-1 Landmark) also received three goals from sophomore midfielder Joe Hill (South Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) and two from senior midfielder Patrick O'Rourke (Floral Park, N.Y./Chaminade). Junior midfielder Adam Maiale (Blue Bell, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) added a goal.

Sophomore midfielder Michael Modesti (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) had a team-high two assists, and Scranton also received one assist each from senior midfielders Casey Green (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) and Jack Kiess (Glen Rock, N.J./Ramapo), sophomore attackman Quinn Killeen (Berkeley Heights, N.J./New Providence) and sophomore midfielder Alexander Dadourian (Summit, N.J./Summit).

Senior midfielder Conor Carey (Long Beach, N.Y./Chaminade) led the defense with three caused turnovers and seven ground balls, and Kirkwood also had seven ground balls. Maiale finished with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Freshman midfielder Collin Purdy (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) won 11 of 16 faceoffs to help the Royals win 18 of 25 overall. Senior midfielder Adam Drury (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) also won six of eight faceoffs.

Senior goalkeeper Jeffrey Sabatini (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) made four saves in the opening 55:30 and senior Timmy Gray (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) made a pair of saves the rest of the way.

Scranton held a dominant 54-16 edge in shots and had a 45-32 edge in ground balls. The Royals went 11-for-12 on clear attempts and committed 18 turnovers. They were 2-for-4 on the power play.

Moravian (4-5, 0-2 Landmark) completed 14 of 22 clear attempts and committed 27 turnovers. The Greyhounds went 0-for-2 on the power play.

The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, April 14, when they travel to Elizabethtown, Pa. to take on Elizabethtown in a Landmark Conference game at 2 p.m.
