SOUTH ABINGTON TWP., Pa. – Less than 14 hours after a tough loss, The University of Scranton men's tennis team returned to the court on Sunday and rebounded to defeat Catholic, 8-1, in a Landmark Conference match at Birchwood Tennis & Fitness Club.
The Royals (6-3) had four players post wins in singles and doubles on day after they lost a narrow 5-4 decision against Goucher in a match that started at 6:30 p.m. and did not conclude until after 11 p.m.
Freshman Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at no. 2 singles and paired with his brother, senior Keller McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) for an 8-3 win at no. 1 doubles.
Junior Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at no. 3 singles. He teamed with fellow junior Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) for an 8-1 win at no. 2 doubles. Harkins was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at no. 5 singles.
Junior Charles Swope (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) was the Royals' other two-time winner, posting a 6-1, 6-1 victory at no. 4 singles. He teamed with junior Christian Aksu (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) for an 8-4 win at no. 3 doubles.
Freshman Connor Lemieux (Guilford, Conn./The Gunnery) added a 6-0, 1-6, 10-5 victory at no. 6 singles to give the Royals the 8-1 win.
The men's tennis team will be back in action on Saturday, April 14, when the Royals host Moravian at 1 p.m. at Royal Courts.
