EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Tatiana Klacko (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) and junior Emily Kelly (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) both posted wins in singles and doubles to lead The University of Scranton women's tennis team to a 6-1 win at East Stroudsburg on Saturday.
Klacko posted a 6-4, 6-2 win at no. 2 singles not long after teaming with senior Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep) for a 6-4 win at no. 1 doubles.
Kelly was a 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) winner at no. 3 singles after she had paired with freshman Julie Kuhns-Baione (Glen Ridge, N.Y./Glen Ridge) for a 6-4 win at no. 2 doubles.
Scranton (1-0) also received a 6-0, 6-3 win at no. 4 singles from freshman Marissa Campo (Green Lane, Pa./Christopher Dock). Sophomore Kristen Denniston (Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack) was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at no. 5 singles, and freshman Stephanie Hoffmann (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) pulled out a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) win at no. 6 singles.
The no. 3 doubles team of senior Elyse Smilnak (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) and freshman Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) also gave the Royals a 6-0 victory.
The women's tennis team will be back in action on Monday, Sept. 17, when they host Marywood at 4 p.m. at Royal Courts.
