GRANTHAM, Pa. – Four players posted wins in singles and doubles action to lead The University of Scranton men's tennis team to a 6-3 win at Messiah on Saturday morning.
Scranton (2-0) got singles and doubles wins from sophomore Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) and seniors Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central), Charles Swope (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield).
The Royals jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles on the strength of victories at the top two spots. McGurrin and Ochalski teamed for a 8-0 win at no. 1 doubles while Swope and Harkins posted an 8-1 victory at no. 2.
In singles play, McGurrin gave Scranton a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the top of the lineup and Ochalski followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win at no. 2. Swope was nearly flawless at no. 3, posting a 6-1, 6-0 win while Harkins was untouched at no. 4 with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
The men's tennis team will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 25, when the Royals go on the road to face Wilkes at 4 p.m. at Kirby Park in Edwardsville, Pa.
