SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team built an 11-3 halftime lead and cruised to an 18-9 victory at Marywood on Saturday afternoon, opening the season with a convincing win over the Pacers.

Junior Quinn Killeen (Berkeley Heights, N.J./New Providence) scored five goals and added two assists while senior Tim Dolan (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) added three goals and two helpers for the Royals (1-0), who will host King's on Sunday in their home opener.

Junior Connor Kirkwood (Millburn, N.J./St Peter's Prep) and sophomore Jalen Holmes (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) had two goals and an assist apiece while freshman Cole Lukasiewicz (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) and sophomore Daniel Mallay (South Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) also potted a pair of goals each in the win over the Pacers (0-2).

The Royals jumped out to a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter of Saturday's contest at Marywood before netting the first the four goals of the second stanza to hold a 9-1 advantage just three minutes into the period.  The two teams traded goals over the final 11 minutes to put Scranton's advantage at eight goals at the intermission.

The Royals built a 12-goal cushion by netting five of the third quarter's six goals to hold a commanding, 16-4 lead heading into the final 15 minutes of the contest.  With little doubt remaining about the result, the Pacers outscored the visitors 5-2 in the fourth period.  

Junior Michael Elefonte (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) had a goal and an assist to go along with six ground balls while junior Alexander Dadourian (Summit, N.J./Summit) scored a goal and had a pair of caused turnovers for the Royals, who held a 58-25 advantage in shots for the game while holding a 48-27 lead in the ground ball battle.

Sophomore Collin Purdy (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) had a strong game, winning 19-of-24 face-offs while picking up a game-high nine groundballs.

Freshman T.J. Grogan (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) went the distance in goal for the Royals, making nine saves to post the victory.

Scranton will host King's in its first-ever game on Weiss Field tomorrow afternoon starting at 3 p.m.
