SCRANTON - Junior Kate Calabro (Seaford, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) of The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team scored five goals on the day, as the Royals rolled past visiting Farmingdale State, 16-4, on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Weiss Field.

With the win, the 20th-ranked Royals moved to 8-1 overall on the year and are now winners of four games in a row. Farmingdale State fell to 1-8 with the defeat.

In the victory, Scranton fell behind 2-0 early but proceeded to end the first half on a nine-goal scoring run to take a 9-2 lead into intermission. In the second half, the visiting Rams were first to score, but the Royals once again went on a scoring barrage to put the game away, tallying five unanswered scores to open a 14-3 lead with 15:28 left in regulation.

From there, it was academic for the Royals, as they clinched their fourth win of the year by double-figures and their third straight victory overall by more than 10 goals.

Overall, Calabro led the offense in the win, scoring three goals in the first half and two more in the second to finish with a game-high five goals. The five-goal performance was the best of the season for the junior, as she has now scored multiple goals in four games on the season. Calabro also had an assist, four draw controls, and a caused turnover in the win, as well.

Elsewhere, junior Shannon Warburton (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and sophomore Jill Henson (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) both had hat tricks in the victory, with Henson ending the game with three assists to notch seven total points on the afternoon. Henson also had two ground balls and a caused turnover, while Warburton was also credited with an assist in the win.

Senior Kaitlyn Murphy (Somers, N.Y./North Salem), meanwhile, scored two goals and added an assist in the victory. Rounding out the goal scorers on the day for Scranton were sophomores Bridget Lalley (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) and Raegen Dunn (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township), along with freshman Jaclyn McCusker (River Edge, N.J./River Dell) who all tallied scores in the win.

On the defensive end, it was another banner day for the Royals, as they held an opponent to single-digit goals for the sixth time on the year. Leading the unit all game was freshman Emily Schum (East Hanover, N.J./Morris Catholic), who finished with seven ground balls and six caused turnovers, both team-bests. Junior Becca Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor), meanwhile, had six ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers in the victory, as well.

In net, sophomore Lauren Devlin (Doylestown, Pa,/Central Bucks West) and junior Erin Putnam (Doylestown, Pa,/Central Bucks South) once again split time on the day, with Devlin making five saves in the first half and Putnam stopping four shots in the second half.

The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, as they hit the road for a Landmark Conference match-up at Juniata. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
