WASHINGTON, D.C. - Four University of Scranton men's tennis players were two-time winners on the afternoon, as the Royals opened up Landmark Conference play for the year with an 8-1 win at Catholic on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, Scranton moved to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the Landmark Conference.

The day kicked off on a high note for Scranton, as the Royals swept doubles action to take a 3-0 lead into singles.

Taking victories in doubles play were senior Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and sophomore Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) were 8-1 victors at number one, while graduate Christian Aksu (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) and senior Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn,/New Fairfield) captured an 8-3 win at number two.

The sweep of doubles was completed at number three, where senior Charles Swope (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and freshman Christopher Kocon (Mountain Top, Pa./Holy Redeemer) captured an 8-3 win to put Scranton up, 3-0.

It was more of the same for Scranton in singles, as they captured five of the six matches contested to pull away from the host Cardinals.

Becoming two-time winners on the day for Scranton were McGurrin at number one (6-3, 6-2), Ochalski at number two (6-1, 6-0), Swope at number three (6-1, 6-3), and Harkins at number four (6-0, 6-0). The last win of the day for the Royals was collected at number six singles by freshman Sal Sullivan (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

The University of Scranton men's tennis team returns to action on Sunday, as they make the quick trip to Goucher for another Landmark Conference match. Action gets underway at 2 p.m.
