SCRANTON, Pa. - Visiting Moravian won five of the six singles matches contested on the day to rally back from a 3-0 deficit against The University of Scranton women's tennis team on Saturday, taking a 5-4 decision from the Royals in Landmark Conference play.

With the defeat, Scranton dropped to 9-6 overall and 5-1 in the Landmark Conference, while Moravian moved to 13-1 overall and 6-0 in the Landmark with the victory.

The Royals also honored the two members of their 2018-19 senior class on the day - Elyse Smilnak (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) and Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep).

In doubles action, the Royals got off to a strong start, taking all three matches to open an early 3-0 lead on the visiting Greyhounds.

First, at number one, junior Nastashia DeNunzio (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) and sophomore Marissa Campo (Green Lane, Pa./Christopher Dock) collected an 8-5 victory, while Jakubek and junior Emily Kelly (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) won by the same score in the second doubles flight. The doubles sweep was completed by Smilnak and freshman Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) at number three, as they rolled to an 8-2 win.

But, in singles action, Moravian turned the tables on Scranton, winning five singles matches (all of which in straight sets) to take the match. The Royals' lone singles win was notched by DeNunzio at number one in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

The University of Scranton women's tennis team returns to action on Sunday, as they are slated to travel to Elizabethtown for their final Landmark Conference match of the regular season. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
