Men's Lacrosse Locks Up #2 Seed With 16-8 Win at Moravian in Regular Season Finale

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team secured the #2 seed in next week's Landmark Conference playoffs with a 16-8 victory at Moravian in Saturday's regular season finale. 

The Royals (10-7, 5-1 Landmark) will host third-seeded Susquehanna in a Landmark Conference semifinal on Wednesday starting at 7 p.m. at Weiss Field in Scranton.

Top-seeded Elizabethtown will host #4 Catholic in Wednesday's other semifinals with the two winners meeting on Saturday for the Landmark Conference championship.

Freshman Mike Bouhall (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) enjoyed a huge game, racking up eight points on six goals and two assists to lead the Royals offensively.

Scranton wasted little time in taking control of Saturday's game at Moravian (8-7, 2-4 Landmark), building a 6-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.  Both teams scored three goals apiece in the second period to give the Royals a 9-4 advantage at halftime.

The Royals netted the first four markers of the third quarter to open up a 13-4 cushion and led 14-7 heading into the final period.  Scranton netted two of the three goals scored in the fourth quarter to close out the win. 

Senior Tim Dolan (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and junior Quinn Killeen (Berkeley Heights, N.J./New Providence) both netted hat tricks while sophomore Jalen Holmes (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) added a goal and an assist and freshman Cole Lukasiewicz (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) dished out a pair of helpers.

Junior Michael Elefonte (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon), along with sophomores Collin Purdy (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) and Daniel Mallay (South Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) also scored for the Royals in the win.

Purdy won 22-of-27 face-offs on the day and picked up a game-high 11 groundballs while junior Brendan McGinn (West Chester, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) added a pair of caused turnovers.

Sophomore Shayne Fallon (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) made 12 saves in Scranton's cage to post his eighth win of the season.

Scranton finished the afternoon with a 49-36 advantage in shots and held a 34-21 lead in groundballs.  The Royals also went a perfect, 19-for-19 on their clearing attempts in the win.
