Men's Lacrosse Cruises Past Goucher in Landmark Conference Action, 23-6

The University of Scranton celebrated its Senior Day in style on Saturday, pulling away with a 23-6 victory over visiting Goucher in a Landmark Conference men's lacrosse game at Weiss Field.  The Royals improved to 7-6 on the season and 2-0 in Landmark Conference play while dropping the Gophers to 4-7 (0-3 Landmark) this spring.

Prior to Saturday's game, Scranton honored the team's four seniors: Kasey Carroll (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley), Tim Dolan (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), Matt Grilli (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), and Michael Pellegrino (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge).

Scranton received points from 14 different players in the victory including nine with multi-point efforts.

Junior Quinn Killeen (Berkeley Heights, N.J./New Providence) paced the Royals with six points on two goals and four assists while Dolan (4 goals, 1 assist), junior Connor Kirkwood (Millburn, N.J./St Peter's Prep) (4 goals, 1 assist) and sophomore Daniel Mallay (South Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) (3 goals, 2 assists) added five points apiece.

Goucher opened the scoring two and a half minutes into Saturday's contest, but Scranton seven of the next eight goals to hold a 7-2 advantage at the end of the first quarter.  The Royals went on to take an 11-4 lead into halftime after outscoring the Gophers 4-2 in the second period.

Scranton netted the first seven markers coming out of the intermission to open up a commanding, 18-4 advantage and took a 19-5 lead into the fourth quarter.  The Royals netted four of the final stanza's five tallies to account for the final score.

Junior Michael Elefonte (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) scored three goals and added an assist while Joe Hill (South Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) added a goal and two helpers.

Freshman Sean Crotty (Long Beach, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scored twice in the win while sophomore Jalen Holmes (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and freshman Cole Lukasiewicz (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) contributed a goal and an assist apiece. 

Junior Justin Jordan (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) and freshman Thomas Nagle (Berwyn, N.J./Conestoga) also netted goals for Scranton in the win.

Sophomore Shayne Fallon (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) made six saves over the first three quarters to notch his fifth win of the season in the Royals' cage while Grilli turned aside three shots in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Collin Purdy (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) went 14-for-22 on face-offs in the contest and tied with Elefonte for the game-high in groundballs.  Pellegrino won all six of his face-offs on the afternoon while junior Gordon Paul (Ocean, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) led all players with two caused turnovers.

Scranton outshot Goucher by a 45-27 margin on the day and had a 44-34 advantage in groundballs.  The Royals also won 23 of the game's 33 face-offs while going 13-for-16 on clearing attempts.

Scranton welcomes Drew to Weiss Field on Wednesday night for a Landmark Conference matchup starting at 7 p.m.
