No. 20 Women's Lacrosse Takes Seventh in a Row, Grounds Goucher in 21-7 Landmark Conference Road Win

TOWSON, Md. - Senior Kaitlyn Murphy (Somers, N.Y./North Salem) and junior Kate Calabro (Seaford, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) both had hat tricks on the day, as The 20th-ranked University of Scranton women's lacrosse team coasted past host Goucher, 21-7, on Saturday in Landmark Conference action at Beldon Field.

With the win, Scranton captured their seventh straight game to improve to 11-1 overall and remain unbeaten in the Landmark Conference at 3-0. Goucher fell to 7-5 and 0-3 in the Landmark with the defeat.

On the day, Scranton put the host Gophers away early, as they opened an 11-4 lead late in the first half after scoring nine of 11 goals, breaking open a game that was once tied up at 2-2. Up 12-4 entering halftime, the Royals continue to add to their lead in the second half, outscoring Goucher by a sizeable 9-2 margin in the second half to coast to a 14-goal victory on the road.

Overall, the double-digit goal win for Scranton was their sixth for the 2019 season and marks the seventh time on the year that the Royals defense held an opponent to single-digit goals for a contest.

On the offensive end in the win, seven Scranton players scored multiple goals on the afternoon to lead the way. Pacing the offense was Murphy and Calabro, who both finished with three goals, apiece. Calabro also dished out a pair of assists in the victory, as well.

Elsewhere, sophomore Bridget Lalley (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) and freshman Raegen Dunn (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) had two goals and an assist, apiece, while junior Shannon Warburton (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) also had two goals and an assist on the day. Rounding out the multiple goal scorers on the day for Scranton was sophomore Halle Conklin (Point Lookout, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and senior Christine Olert (Katonah, N.Y./Somers), who had two goals, apiece.

Finishing out the scoring sheet for Scranton was freshman Jennifer Williams (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville), and sophomores Bridget Doyle (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley), Kiera Carmody (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), and Jill Henson (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy).

Henson also dished out five assists in the victory and with six total points for the day has now notched 100 career points in her time in the Royals program.

In other statistical categories, Calabro led the way in both draw controls (five) and ground balls (four), while Lalley finished with four draw controls, three ground balls, and a team-best three caused turnovers. The Royals defense went on to cause 16 turnovers (compared to just two for Goucher) while gobbling up 29 ground balls overall.

In net, sophomore Lauren Devlin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) once again got the start and collected the win, making seven saves in the first half, while junior Erin Putnam (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) came in to start the second half and made four saves in the final 30 minutes of action.

The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, as they travel to Drew for another Landmark Conference road contest. Things get underway at 4:30 p.m.
