Women's Tennis Drops Tough 5-4 Decision to SUNY Oneonta

SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (1-1) suffered a tough 5-4 loss to SUNY Oneonta (7-0) on Thursday afternoon at Royal Courts in Scranton.

Scranton held an early 2-1 lead after doubles play as the duo of senior Nastashia DeNunzio (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore)/junior Marissa Campo (Green Lane, Pa./Christopher Dock) registered an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles and junior Tatiana Klacko (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep)/freshman Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazelton Area) took home an 8-3 decision in No. 3 doubles.

DeNunzio remained unbeaten in singles action as she captured a 6-3, 6-5 victory over the Red Dragons' Maya Lipscomb at No. 1 singles. The Dunmore, Pa., native is now 5-0 on the season. Nowak added the other singles victory for the Royals as she also improved to 5-0 on the year with a 6-1, 6-1 win against SUNY Oneonta's Emily Greene at No. 5 singles.

Sophomore Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) dropped a tough 3-6, 6-1, 4-10 decision to Madeline Carswell at No. 6 singles.

The Royals return to the courts this weekend at the ITA Northeast Region Championships that will be hosted by Hobart and William Smith Colleges beginning on Saturday.
