ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (1-0, 1-0 Landmark) returned to the court for the first time in over a year and won four of the six singles matches in a 6-3 victory over the Elizabethtown Blue Jays (0-1, 0-1 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at the Alumni Courts in Elizabethtown.
Scranton grabbed an early lead with a pair of victories in doubles play. At the No. 2 doubles flight, graduate student Emily Kelly (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) and senior Tatiana Klacko (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) registered an 8-0 win, while senior Kristen Denniston (Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack) and junior Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) notched an 8-0 win of their own in No. 3 doubles play.
Sophomore Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) remained unbeaten in singles play in her career (8-0) with a 6-0, 6-2 win over the Blue Jays' Kaylee Mustard in No. 3 singles. Kelly captured a straight set decision (6-0, 6-1) over Olivia Richards at the No. 4 singles flight.
In No. 5 singles, senior Lindsay Roberto (Princeton, N.J./Notre Dame) defeated Morgan Bleicher in straight sets (6-1, 6-3) and Denniston notched a 6-1, 6-2 win over Katie Hollen in No. 6 singles action.
The Royals return home to host Drew in a Landmark Conference dual match on Wednesday, April 7 at 4:30 p.m.
