SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (3-0, 3-0 Landmark) won five of the six singles matches and registered an 8-1 victory over the Susquehanna River Hawks (1-3, 1-2 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at the Garrett Center Tennis Courts in Selinsgrove.
Scranton got off to an early 3-0 lead with three victories in doubles play. The duo of senior Marissa Campo (Green Lane, Pa./Christopher Dock)/sophomore Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) recorded an 8-1 win over Ashlynn Searer and Grace Tepes in No. 1 doubles, while senior Tatiana Klacko (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) and graduate student Emily Kelly (West Chester, Pa./B.Reed Henderson) picked up an 8-2 victory in No. 2 doubles. At the No. 3 doubles flight, senior Kristen Denniston (Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack) and junior Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) cruised to an 8-1 victory over the River Hawks' Haley White and Bella Scapaticci.
In No. 2 singles action, Campo notched a straight set victory over Tepes, 6-2, 6-1 and Nowak was a straight set winner (6-0, 6-1) over Anna Ream at No. 3 singles. Klacko dropped a 4-6, 6-7 (4) heartbreaker to Searer at the No. 1 singles flight.
Kelly got the best of Julia Bramley with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles and senior Lindsay Roberto (Princeton, N.J./Notre Dame) took a 6-1, 6-3 decision against Susquehanna's Chelsea Kneedler in No. 5 singles. In No. 6 singles play, Denniston swept Holly Young 6-0, 6-0.
The Royals look to remain unbeaten when they host Catholic in the team's first home match of the season on Saturday, April 17. First serve at the Royal Courts in Scranton is slated for 1 p.m.
