SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's tennis team (2-2, 2-2 Landmark) dropped a 6-3 decision to the Drew Rangers (4-0, 4-0 Landmark) at the Royal Courts in Scranton on Wednesday afternoon.
The doubles duo of seniors Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) and James Harrington (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) registered an 8-3 victory over John Dickey and Bryce Kennedy in No. 1 doubles, but the Rangers won the other two doubles matches to take the early 2-1 lead.
In No. 1 singles play, McGurrin picked up a straight set win (6-1, 6-1) over Geoffrey Diehl and Harrington recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win against Dan Blumenthal in No. 2 singles. Sophomore Patrick O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) dropped a three-set heartbreaker (1-6, 6-4, 2-6) at No. 4 singles to Jeremy Gottlieb.
The University of Scranton men's tennis team has a pair of matches slated for this weekend as the Royals will host Catholic on Saturday before heading to Baltimore to battle Goucher on Sunday. First serve on both days is slated for 1 p.m.
McGurrin will be honored prior to Saturday's match.
