BALTIMORE, Md. – The University of Scranton men's tennis team (4-2, 4-2 Landmark) took an early lead in doubles play and captured a 6-3 win over the Goucher College Gophers (4-1, 4-1 Landmark) on Sunday afternoon at Schroedl Tennis Center in Baltimore.
Seniors Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) and James Harrington (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) notched an 8-3 win over the Gophers' Omosesan Adebamgbe/Slade Dumas in No. 1 doubles.
McGurrin topped Dumas in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) in No. 1 singles and Harrington was a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) winner over Adebamgbe at the No. 2 singles flight for the Royals. Junior Sal Sullivan (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) swept Goucher's Alex Dominguez, 6-0, 6-0 in No. 5 singles.
Scranton won both the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles points by forfeit.
The Royals will close out the regular season with a pair of home matches next weekend as they will host Moravian on Saturday and Juniata on Sunday. First serve on both days is slated for 1 p.m.
