SCRANTON - After being away from the mats inside the John Long Center for over a year, The University of Scranton wrestling team returned to action on Sunday, finishing off their 2020-21 season with an intersquad exhibition event.
Before the competition began, the Royals honored their lone senior for the 2021 class - Kyle Shaffer (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah).
Shaffer, who finishes his career at Scranton with a 46-36 overall record wrestling primarily at 157 pounds, will end his academic career with a perfect 4.0-grade point average as a finance major at the university. A two-time team captain in each of the last two seasons, Shaffer was also an NWCA Scholar All-American after the 2019 season.
Sunday's competition consisted of nine bouts, all of which featured Royals who will battle for starting positions in the line-up when the 2021-22 season begins later this year. Of note, one competitor - freshman Daniel Kosinski (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) - wrestled twice on the afternoon and won both of his bouts in impressive fashion in his first-ever action in the Long Center.
