SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (2-1) won all three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches en route to a 7-2 win over the Marywood Pacers (1-3) in a non-conference dual match on Wednesday afternoon at the Royal Courts in Scranton.
At No. 1 doubles, the duo of graduate student Marissa Campo (Green Lane, Pa./Christopher Dock)/junior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) rolled to an 8-2 win, while senior Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) and freshman Brigid O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic Prep) were 8-5 winners in No. 2 doubles. The duo of freshman Julia Nocentino (Mantua, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and sophomore Lydia Grossman (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) closed out the doubles sweep for the Royals with an 8-1 victory over Marywood's Kayla Flyte and Angela Giroux.
In singles play, freshman Mayjah Jean-Pierre (Linden, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over the Pacers' Caroline Cadden at the first singles flight. At No. 2 singles, Campo was a straight set winner (6-3, 6-0) over Gabriella Nowak.
Other singles winners for Scranton included freshman Taralyn Reilly (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) who took a thriller against Giroux, 3-6, 6-0 (10-7) in No. 5 singles and sophomore Maddy Abood (Plainfield, N.J./Union Catholic) was a 6-2, 6-0 victor over Julia Cicco at No. 6 singles.
The Royals close out the fall portion of their 2021-22 schedule by hosting Lebanon Valley in a dual match on Sunday afternoon. First serve at the Royal Courts is set for 12 p.m.
