KINGSTON, Pa. – Senior James Harrington (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) posted wins at no. 1 singles and doubles, but The University of Scranton men's tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss at Wilkes in non-conference tennis action on Saturday at the TK Tennis Academy.
Harrington teamed with junior Patrick O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) to get Scranton off to a good start with an 8-3 victory at no. 1 doubles. But the Royals, who went 0-2 during the fall season, dropped the other two doubles matches.
Harrington then went out and posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory at no. 1 singles to give the Royals hope. But they managed only one other singles victory, coming from freshman John Sinclair (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) in a hard-fought 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 10-7 decision at no. 4 singles.
Harrington improved to 3-0 in singles play this season, extending his career winning streak to 14-0 since joining the Royals a season ago. He and O'Mara are now 2-1 on the season in doubles action.
The men's tennis team will return to action on Saturday, March 5, when they host Kutztown at 1 p.m. at Birchwood Tennis Club in nearby South Abington Township.
