ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (5-3) won five of the six singles matches en route to a 6-3 victory over the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles (1-8) on Tuesday in Orlando.
UM-Crookston led 2-1 after doubles play as the duo of freshman Mayjah Jean-Pierre (Linden, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) and senior Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) notched an 8-4 win in No. 2 doubles for the lone victory for the Royals.
Jean-Pierre recorded a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Madeleine Schneider at No. 1 singles, while junior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) cruised past the Golden Eagles' Michelle Swyter, 6-0, 6-1 in second singles action.
Graduate student Marissa Campo (Green Lane, Pa./Christopher Dock) was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at No. 3 singles to go along with victories from Loughlin (7-6, 6-3) in No. 4 singles and a three-set thriller (4-6, 7-6, 10-5) for freshman Maddy Tratthen (Olyphant, Pa./Scranton Prep) over Samantha Gutierrez at the fifth singles flight.
Scranton returns to the court on Thursday for a match with Stevenson at the USTA National Tennis Center in Orlando.
